What a whirlwind season it has been for the Colorado Avalanche…uh…sorta.
Despite not having played a single game on the ice, two former Avalanche players are solidifying their legacies.
Peter Forsberg was named to the International Ice Hockey Federation’s 2013 Hall of Fame class in an announcement made over the weekend.
He joins teammate Joe Sakic, who was named to the NHL’s Hockey Hall of Fame earlier this month in Toronto.
The IIHF Hall of Fame primarily honors players outside of North America. Along with Mats Sundin, Forsberg will be one of two Swedish players to be inducted next year.
Having won two Stanley Cups, two Olympic gold medals and two World Championships, Forsberg was the youngest player to become a member of the “Triple Gold Club” and the only Swede to win it twice.
Forsberg’s jersey was retired by the Avalanche at the beginning of last season.
He will be formally inducted on May 19th, 2013 in his home country of Sweden on the Gold Medal Day of the 77th IIHF World Championship in Stockholm.
