Broncos player: Tebow’s “not an NFL quarterback”

Here we go again.

CBS Sports’ Mike Freeman was presumably digging around the locker room on Sunday night after the Broncos beat the Buccaneers 31-23, and he talked to Broncos players about Tim Tebow – and he got some pretty harsh quotes out of it.

One Broncos player, who didn’t want to be identified, told Freeman: “When Tim was here we saw the issues up close. The Jets didn’t, and now they are seeing the problems, too. I feel really, really bad for Tim. He’s a good person, just not an NFL quarterback.”

Another player told Freeman that while he wishes the best for Tebow, he strongly feels the Broncos are far better off without him.

“Of course we’re comparing this year to last year. This year we won the division with four games left. That’s all Peyton Manning. If Tebow was here, we’d still be squeaking out wins, or losing games we shouldn’t be losing. The division would be coming down to the last game. I’ve been following Tim in New York and I feel horrible for him. Everyone here, I think, wants the best for him. He’s a good guy. But you can’t turn Tim into something he’s not, and he’s not really an NFL quarterback. He’s more of a gimmick player.”

The players all prefaced their comments by trying not to rip Tebow, all saying that they liked him as a person and wished him well, but it just adds to the growing mountain of animosity against Tebow as an NFL player. Tebow’s current Jets teammates have already dug into him, and now his former teammates are saying what Jets coach Rex Ryan seems to be thinking:

Tim Tebow isn’t an NFL quarterback.
