Dexter Fowler’s name is popping up all over trade rumors as baseball’s winter meetings come to a close later today in Nashville, and maybe he’s eyeing greener, more lucrative pastures.
Fowler offered a, shall we say, interesting tweet yesterday. Fowler said on Tuesday afternoon: “Congrats @ShaneVictorino…I see you!”
Shane Victorino received a three-year, $38 million contract from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, according to multiple reports, and Fowler is scheduled to make $4.5-$5 million in arbitration in 2013, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. But the Rockies are also entertaining offers on Fowler as they eye more pitching, and Fowler might be eyeing extra money, if Tuesday’s tweet is anything to go off of.
Fowler, who had a breakout season in 2012 with a .300 average and 13 homers, and the Rockies were supposed to discuss a long-term deal this offseason, but that doesn’t appear to have happened. And if it doesn’t happen soon, the talented center fielder may want more money, whether it be in LoDo – or elsewhere.
