Sources have confirmed to CBS4′s Vic Lombardi that Denver Broncos director of pro scouting Matt Russell.

Russell played linebacker for the Buffs from 1993-1996 and was a consensus first-team all-american and Butkus Award winner in 1996.

For the past two seasons, Russell has been John Elway’s right hand man as the two have rebuilt the Broncos from a 4-12 team to a Super Bowl favorite.

Though Russell is not an official candidate for the position, he told Lombardi that he simply wants to help his alma mater any way he can.
