For the last few days, the quarterback everyone has been linking to Denver was Colin Kaepernick, but after news broke this morning that he would rather play in Cleveland with Hugh Jackson, the Broncos may have been urged to go in another direction.

But is this where it stops? Is Sanchez the starting quarterback Day 1?

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL Network thinks not.

Maybe Sanchez is just a safety blanket in case John Elway can’t get a deal done with Kaepernick, Ryan Fitzpatrick or whomever he is targeting. Or maybe Sanchez is a guy Elway believes can excel behind this defense and within this organization.

The best thing you can say about Sanchez is that he has experience and that he’s started in two AFC Championship games, but it’s been a long time since he’s done anything worthwhile in the NFL.

For his career, Sanchez has completed just 56.7 percent of his passes, while tossing 86 touchdowns and 84 interceptions.
