Before the Colorado Avalanche face off against the rest of the NHL during the 2016-2017 season, they will play amongst themselves.

On Monday, the Avalanche announced that their annual Burgundy/White Game will take place on Sunday September 25 at 3 p.m., returning to Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus for the third consecutive year.

An intrasquad scrimmage, the game has been played each preseason since 1998. The Avalanche roster will be split in two and compete for three full periods. Traditionally, the teams have participated in a shootout following the contest, regardless of the score.

Tickets, which will range from $10-25 dollars, will be available to the general public through www.denverpioneers.com starting August 17. There will be a presale for Avalanche season ticket holders on August 15, with one for Avalanche partial season ticket holders and Pioneers season ticket holders the following day.

Rosters for the two squads will be released on a later date. It’s possible that several prominent Avalanche players will not play, due to a conflict with the World Cup.
