The Delgado Dolphins have not ever won a JUCO World Series game in three straight appearances. However, today became a different chapter for the team from the bayou of Louisiana.

The Dolphins’ finally won a game at the JUCO World Series, and it came against Darton State, who made their first and only appearance — the program no longer exists, due to the school merging with another school.

Delgado won in five innings by way of 10-run rule over Darton State, 12-2. Once the Dolphins’ got their bats in a groove, they sprayed hits and runs across the field. Three of the players for Delgado had three or more RBIs: Daniel Lahare (5), Spencer Miller (3) and Dylan Weston (3). Weston hit a home run, too; his third of the JUCO World Series — he hit two in last night’s game.

Not only was it Delgado’s first win in program history, but it was head coach Joe Scheuermann’s 900th win with Delgado.

“It’s absolutely amazing and it’s huge,” Lahare said. “Delgado is known to be a family-oriented baseball club and school. He lets us know that, and he has his dad’s name above the scoreboard. We all respect him (Scheuermann) and we play for him.”

The Dolphins look to keep their winning ways going in the loser’s bracket, searching for win No. 2 in program history.
