The Denver Broncos wrapped up their 2017 rookie orientation on Saturday with a rookies-only practice. For several of the new Broncos, it was a day that “becoming a Bronco” finally clicked. But for all the rookies, it was a chance to get back to the basics – to work on the fundamentals that helped earn them a chance to compete for an NFL roster.

AP writer Arnie Stapleton was on-hand at the practice and joined Gil Whiteley on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to break down exactly what he saw from the newest crop of Broncos.

Although the rookies represent some of the best players coming out of the college ranks, there’s a big leap to be made from the college game to the pro game, says Stapleton. He noted that even Denver’s top overall pick, Garett Bolles, was going through fundamental footwork drills with the Broncos coaching staff. Despite being the first lineman selected in the draft, Bolles, like any rookie, is now going back to the basics to make sure he’s ready to compete at an NFL level.

Listen to the full conversation with Stapleton, including his thoughts on whether the Broncos should have a reunion with Orlando Franklin, in the podcast below.
