Do the Denver Broncos have a full blown controversy brewing at running back? Right now it’s very unclear who the starter even is and head coach Gary Kubiak is doing nothing to help calm down that speculation.

Kubiak met with the media Friday and was asked about a variety of players, including the running backs. Kubes, to his credit, normally shoots it straight with the press but on one issue is being very non-committal.

Here’s Kubiak, in his words, about where things stand with C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman right now:

“We’re playing a lot of guys. They’re going to both play. C.J. did some good things in the game. Ronnie did some good things in the game. There are a lot of times it wouldn’t matter who was back there. We’re going to continue to play them both. I think there’s some times that, as a back, when things aren’t good, you’ve still got to find a way to make things happen. We’re all in this together. Like I said, they’re both going to be very much involved with what we do.”

Hmm. Do we really believe he’s going to essentially have two running backs get 50 percent of the carries all year? At some point, you’ve got a pick a starter and go with him, right?

For now it does appear both Anderson and Hillman will get plenty of carries, but whoever springs a big run first may be the guy the rest of the way.
