The Denver Broncos defense was arguably the biggest point of emphasis for Denver this offseason as they brought in a defensive-minded head coach in Vic Fangio and several additions within the secondary.

All eyes are focused on safety Kareem Jackson, who was the largest defensive signing for the Broncos in free agency. Jackson recently joined Ronnie K on the Ronnie K show on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to discuss his role in the defense and the importance of communication.

Jackson is well known for his versatility on defense, having played both cornerback and safety for the Houston Texans. He’s ready to take that same versatility to Fangio’s system as well.

“I just want to be a guy that just do whatever I’m asked,” Jackson said. “Right now, I’m playing a lot of safety. So, it’s all about me mastering that safety role, spitting calls out, and getting guys in the right spot.”

Communication has been lacking for the secondary in 2018 as they were ranked 20th in passing defense according to Pro Football Reference. In training camp, communication has been key.

“It’s coming along well,” Jackson said. “It’s all about communication with us, being is though that [there’s] four guys, sometimes five or six guys out there at a time. So, for us is we’re all on the same page before the ball snaps. I think it will be fine.”

Jackson and the rest of the Denver defense will try to rediscover their dominate form from that prolific defensive of 2015 as they get ready for preseason starting August 1st.
