In advance of his final broadcast from Folsom Field, legendary broadcaster Larry Zimmer joined Gil Whiteley on Mile High Sports AM 1340 to reminisce about his great career.

Some of Zimmer’s fondest memories have nothing to do with anything that happened on the field. Rather, he’s most moved by the relationships he’s made during his four-plus decades in the booth. It all started with Eddie Crowder, CU’s head coach during Zimmer’s first season behind the mic.

During the conversation, Zimmer also recalled his first season calling Buffs games, when CU opened with an upset win in Baton Rouge over LSU and then traveled two weeks later to Columbus for a victory over Ohio State. Since then, he’s seen plenty of other memorable moments, including Colorado’s infamous win at Missouri in 1990 on fifth down.

The interview wasn’t all about sports, however. Zimmer opened up to Whiteley about his love of the arts, something that has extended to the work he’s done to help build the music, theatre and opera scene in Colorado.

And finally, the legend spent some time sharing his memories about another legend – former KOA broadcaster Bob Martin. Zimmer sat beside the all-time great for many Broncos games, including some trying times during Martin’s final season in the booth, which made for some heartbreaking moments.

Friday, Larry Zimmer will call a game from the press box at Folsom Field for the final time.
