For NBA players, it’s about a lot more than being just an athlete; it’s about being a brand, an icon. Michael Jordan started it all with the “Jumpman” logo, and it’s continued on through Kobe Bryant to LeBron James and Stephen Curry.

And now, it looks as if Under Armour might be looking to do the same with the Denver Nuggets’ second-year point guard, Emmanuel Mudiay.

Now, filing for a trademark doesn’t mean much. An athlete/company probably files four or five trademarks before they decide on one, but it’s an interesting development, nonetheless.

What it tells us is that Mudiay remains one of Under Armour’s top young athletes, and if he has a breakout sophomore campaign, the company could look to strike while the iron is hot, possibly even handing Mudiay his own shoe deal.

The better question, though, is: Do we like the logo?
