When it comes to Colorado and Calgary, 60 minutes is seemingly never enough. Such was the case in the West Division Semifinal presented by Honey Smoked Salmon on Saturday night on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center as the Roughnecks’ Dane Dobbie scored 10-minutes, 17-seconds into overtime to beat the Mammoth, 11-10, in the longest playoff game in Mammoth history.

It marked the fourth consecutive season that Calgary has eliminated Colorado in the division semifinal, and the second time in three seasons the game went to an extra period.

“I’m really proud of how we played,” said coach Pat Coyle. “It’s so disappointing. I honestly thought we were going to move on to the next round and slay the dragon that’s been bugging us for so many years. I’m sort of speechless. We deserved better. We played really well. I’m really proud of the team. Last year, when we lost here, it felt like we deserved to lose. We didn’t play the same game [tonight]. It felt like we deserved better, but all the credit to Calgary.”

Colorado trailed 9-8 in the fourth quarter, then strung together two goals in 20 seconds to take a 10-9 lead. Calgary’s Curtis Dickson tied the game – his fifth of the night – on an extra-attacker goal with 25 seconds left on the clock to force OT.

Jeremy Noble tied a career-high with four goals. Adam Jones scored four in his return to the line-up. Chris Wardle and Joey Cupido had single tallies for the Mammoth.

Both goaltenders were stellar. Colorado’s Dillon Ward, who led the NLL with an .800 save percentage in the regular season, recorded 47 saves. Calgary’s Mike Poulin denied 56 shots.

The Roughnecks will take on the defending-champion Saskatchewan Rush in the West Division Finals.
