Mile High Sports on Denver 8 TV: 2016 Year in Review

Championships and Changes. Those two things defined the sports scene across Colorado in 2016.

The Denver Broncos earned their third Super Bowl championship. The Denver Outlaws hoisted their second Steinfeld Trophy. The University of Colorado made a remarkable run to a top-10 ranking and the Pac-12 South crown. The Glendale Raptors claimed a second consecutive Pacific Rugby Premiership title. The University of Denver won its ninth co-ed skiing national championship (and 23rd overall). The Colorado State women’s basketball team won 28 consecutive games, a school record, en route to a Mountain West title. Those were just some of the banners raised across the state in another banner year in the Mile High.

For those teams who didn’t hoist a trophy or raise a banner, there were plenty of changes made to move in that direction. The Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Rapids made changes at head coach. The Colorado Rapids went all in with major player acquisitions like Tim Howard and Jermaine Jones to get within two goals of a MLS Cup appearance. Colorado State used three different quarterbacks en route to a fourth bowl appearance in as many years.

We cover all that, plus much more, in the 2016 Year in Review edition of Mile High Sports on Denver 8 TV. Hosts Danny Williams and Benny Bash welcome editor-in-chief Doug Ottewill to look back at the championship moments and radio host Ryan Edwards to look at the changes that made 2016 memorable.
