Nuggets 114, Mavericks 107: Ty Lawson had 29 points and 12 assists as host Denver held off shorthanded Dallas for its fifth straight win.

Kenneth Faried added 22 points and 14 rebounds and Wilson Chandler finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Nuggets, which matched their season-long winning streak. J.J. Hickson led the Denver reserves with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Mavericks played without starters Dirk Nowitzki (rest), Tyson Chandler (ankle) and Rajon Rondo a night after winning in overtime at the Sacramento Kings. J.J. Barea matched his season high with 17 points off the bench as five reserves finished in double figures for Dallas.

The Mavericks trailed by 13 after Faried converted a three-point play with 7:05 left in the game, but Dallas followed with an 11-2 run to get back within four with 4:16 on the clock. Lawson’s three-point play gave Denver some breathing room and the Nuggets closed things out by shooting 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 34 seconds.

Denver held a nine-point cushion at the half and took its biggest lead on a basket by Faried to open the third. A 13-0 run by the Nuggets later in the quarter gave Denver a 19-point lead, but Dallas came back with eight unanswered points to get within 11 with 3:12 left in the third before making one final push in the fourth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The reserves for the Mavericks outscored their starters 62-45. … Lawson has reached double figures in points and assists in 15 of the last 26 games. .. These teams are scheduled to play again Friday in Dallas.
