Doug Ottewill – Aside from
being one of the founding members of Haas Rock Publications
and an original Mile High Sports Magazine staff member, Ottewill
now serves as the magazine’s editor. With a lifelong background
in Colorado sports, Ottewill’s sense of history –
and humor – have become MHSM trademarks.
James
Merilatt – Without Merilatt, Mile High Sports Magazine
would never have materialized. Merilatt, the original publisher
and creator, now serves as publisher, editor and writing contributor.
A native of Colorado, he’s known for his extensive knowledge
of Colorado sports history, business savvy and a deep-rooted
pride in the local offering.
Brian
Dvorak – As senior editor, Dvorak quickly became
a magazine favorite when readers began gravitating toward his
“devil’s advocate” style and personality.
Aside from his argumentative side, Dvorak’s noted for
having his ear close to the ground, as he serves as MHSM’s
guru of current hot topics.
Michael
Stock – The resident funny man, Stock was also
in on MHSM’s ground level. Since it’s inception
in 2002, he has provided MHSM readers with the lighter side
of Colorado sports. In addition to bringing a few laughs, Stock’s
knowledge of the professional sports landscape brings an added
element to every issue.
Clinton
Doaks – During his illustrious career, Doaks traveled
the globe to cover every sport imaginable. From Angola to Zaire,
this swashbuckler has filed reports from six continents, 16
time zones and 39 countries. He’s covered the Iditarod,
24 Hours of Monte Carlo, the World Cup and every other major
sporting event. Now semi-retired and living a life of leisure,
this award winning writer pens exclusively for MHSM.
Norm
LaChatlier – Proudly leading MHSM’s “The
Next Alan Berg” pool is this dagger-throwing columnist.
True to his mantra – “an equal opportunity offender”
– LaChatlier is easily MHSM’s most loved (and hated)
columnist. “Norm’s Notes,” which concludes
every issue, is the publication’s holy ground for poking
fun at everyone and everything.
Red
Schaefley – As MHSM’s resident list man,
Schaefley has ranked everything from ballplayers and great games
to sports debacles and nicknames. Schaefley’s patented
“Baker’s Dozen” is the hallmark of the notebook
section, providing a worst-to-first look at Schaefley’s
topic du jour.
Adventure
Guy – AG, as he’s affectionately known, is
the only MHSM staffer who reports to work every day wearing
a helmet. Despite an abnormally soft head, Adventure Guy never
fails to tackle new opportunities for adventure. His gonzo journalism
style, paired with quick wit and sarcasm, are trademarks of
MHSM’s Adventure section.
Pencils
Robinson – Every rag needs a throwback, East Coast
scribe and Robinson fills the void for MHSM. His nostalgic,
introspective view of sports is the trademark to each and every
rambling, twisting essay. His weekly column, “Just Give
Me the Damn Game,” is neither syndicated nor a regular
feature in any known publication.
Ken
Reed – Reed, MHSM’s resident statistician
and point maker, never fails to delve into the tough topics,
either supporting or refuting a controversial point of view.
His columns are filled with thought-provoking numbers, evidence
and opinion, and never lack extensive research and preparation.
As a sports industry consultant, Reed’s column is widely
read and well received
Vanessa
Hughes – MHSM’s “Woman on the Streets”
(in a good way) always gets the story. Whether she’s hunkered
down at Dove Valley trying to steal five with one of the Broncos
or patiently waiting at The Can for a postgame sound bite, Vanessa
“Blue Suede” Hughes is a fixture on the sidelines
of every team in town. Her knack for finding unique angles,
as well as her positive report with Denver’s many coaches
and athletes, are important assets to every issue of MHSM.
Jimmy
Cautosin – “Jimmy C’s Picks and Pans”
are MHSM’s way of delivering timely, cutting-edge commentary
to the MHSM faithful. Never lacking an opinion or passing up
an opportunity to make a bold prediction, Cautosin calls things
as he sees them. An avid tennis player, Cautosin, has been a
club champion on several occasions.
