When one player lands a historic payday, everyone lands a historic payday. Maybe not at that moment, but down the line, every player who enters into contract negotiations will point to that last contract and say, “I want that too.”

Just ask Von Miller.

If it wasn’t for Olivier Vernon or Fletcher Cox signing massive contracts this offseason, maybe Miller never would have had the leverage to sign a deal worth $70 million in guarantees. And when Khalil Mack or JJ Watt get their turn on the open market, they’ll thank Von for pulling in more money than any football player not name Andrew Luck.

And his Denver Broncos teammates were happy, too. For different reasons, though. In their case, they’re just happy to have their best player back out on the field:
