The Colorado Rockies may be gearing up to make a trade ahead of this season’s trade deadline. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Rockies are showing strong interest in Marlins closer AJ Ramos in addition to the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals.

Ramos is having an excellent follow-up to his lone All-Star season. He has strong numbers, owning a career ERA of 2.80. Ramos is under team control through next season and would beef up the back end of Colorado’s bullpen.

Ramos would slide in nicely next to the MLB saves leader, Greg Holland. A Ramos-Holland one-two punch paired with other complimentary arms such as Jake McGee and Mike Dunn would strengthen the bullpen for the Rockies impending postseason push.

Ramos is a proven arm that has some form of team control beyond this year, which fits the profile of what Colorado is looking for in a trade acquisition.

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. MDT.
