Though it wasn’t the original plan, the Colorado Rockies will play a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Doubleheaders can take a toll on rosters. As such, the Rockies have called in a reinforcement.

Rockies manager Bud Black told MLB Network Radio that the team will call up prized pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman for the second game of the doubleheader. He did not say whether the 24-year-old would start.

“As far as moving forward, we’re pretty happy with our rotation,” Black said.

Failing to crack the Rockies rotation in Spring Training, Hoffman has made six starts for the Albuquerque Isotopes in Triple-A this season, going 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA, 29 strikeouts and 10 walks.
