The Colorado Rapids and Shkelzen Gashi have the chance to add yet another accolade to this already historic season, and you can help them do it. Gashi is a finalist for MLS Goal of the Year for his go-ahead free kick against Vancouver on Sept. 24.

Gashi’s superb strike gave the Rapids a 3-2 advantage at 75 minutes in a hostile BC environment. Colorado would go on to concede an equalizer in stoppage time to walk away with the draw, but Gashi’s goal earned him Man of the Match and could live on as the MLS Goal of the Year.

VOTE FOR SHKELZEN GASHI FOR MLS GOAL OF THE YEAR

Gashi has been a key player in what has already been a historic year for Colorado. The club set a record in points (58) and completed the home schedule (11-0-6) undefeated. Included among the other accomplishments this year are: Most home wins since end of shootout era (11). Most home clean sheets in MLS in 2016 (10). Lowest average goals against at home in league history (.41). Most points claimed at home in franchise history (39).

Colorado advanced to the Western Conference Championship defeating L.A. Galaxy on penalty kicks after Gashi scored the lone goal in the second leg, forcing overtime and eventually the deciding kicks. The goal was as impressive (perhaps more) as the one nominated for GOY, but postseason goals are not up for the award.

Colorado travels to Seattle for the first leg on Tuesday, Nov. 22. They host the Sounders Nov. 27 in the second leg.
