While replacing Sefo Liufau in the Colorado Buffaloes’ loss to the Michigan Wolverines, redshirt freshman Steven Montez looked loss, failing to complete a pass on seven attempts. A week later, against a favored Oregon Ducks team, Montez earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Montez was the Buffs offense, passing for 33 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another 135 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Combined, it marked a first for the Colorado program.

This is now the second time in four weeks that a Colorado quarterback has been given the honor, with Liufau winning the award in Week 1 against the Colorado State Rams.

The Buffs will be hoping to have Liufau back for their matchup against Oregon State this weekend, where the Buffs are 17-point favorites at home. If not, though, Montez will be plenty ready.
