The Denver Broncos doubled up the Detroit Lions on Sunday night 24-12 and once again the defense took center stage.

First and foremost, holding Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate to just 12 points is mighty impressive. Throw in four sacks and three turnovers and now you’re really talking.

But just how good has this group been through three games? Here’s the stat of the day courtesy of Broncos PR man extraordinaire Patrick Smyth.

Woah.

The Broncos play the Vikings, Raiders and Browns before their bye and all three teams employ young QBs or washed up veterans. This defense is only going to get better.

It may be different from the last three years, but this much is still clear: The Broncos are once again an excellent football team.
