Colorado Rockies closer Carlos Estevez has struggled immensely at getting batters out in his past few outings, resulting in management giving the role of closer to Adam Ottavino.

The Rockies were up 3-1 heading into the 9th inning of last night’s game against the visiting Texas Rangers. Walt Weiss called upon Carlos “Wild Thing” Estevez to close the game out for the Rockies, but lack of control and an inability to get outs resulted in Estevez blowing the save for his Rockies.

“In every baseball player’s career, we understand, there’s going to be ups and downs,” Estevez told Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. “I’ve got shake it off and (move) ahead.”

The 23-year-old owns a record of 2-7 on the year, with an ERA of 5.18.

The reigns have now shifted to Ottavino who closed games last year for the Rox before injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Otto has been lights out this year, allowing no runs in the 11.2 innings he has pitched since his mid-season return. His WHIP currently stands at 0.94 on the year.

The Rockies are 8-14 in one-run baseball games this season, something that will need to improve greatly if the team wants a crack at the playoffs.
