The Broncos were the talk of the NFL last week.

Yes, they started a non quarterback at QB for the first time since 1965 and their offense was a complete joke, completing a mere one pass along with two interceptions.

Focusing on that alone, though, fails to mention Denver’s defense was phenomenal for most of the contest. There was just no way for the Broncos’ D to keep them in it forever without any offensive production whatsoever.

And Alexander Johnson was the motor in the middle of that defense, setting the tone early. “AJ” started off by earning the first tackle of the day, and on the Saints’ second drive, he stripped Latavius Murray.

The ball squirted out quickly but, unfortunately for Denver, a Saints lineman was able to cover it up and save the possession for the visitors. Still, New Orleans had to punt the ball away, going 3-and-out.

At the end of the game, Johnson was far and away the leading tackler, with eight, including a tackle for a loss. And while he was a huge surprise last year, Johnson has basically caught those season-totals in only 11 games this season. Simply, he’s continuing to improve and will likely be a big part of Denver’s defense moving forward.
