The NFL trade deadline hits next week and NFL Network’s Deion Sanders believes the Denver Broncos problems can be solved with a change at quarterback. But, Sanders is not implying that the Broncos go to a backup QB. Instead, he thinks a trade is necessary.

On NFL Network Tuesday, Sanders gave a passionate plea to Broncos President of Football Operations and General Manager John Elway, encouraging him to make a deal with the New York Giants for Eli Manning.

While many Broncos fans in recent weeks seem ready to see a change at quarterback, the financial impact of adding Manning to the roster may be too big a pill to swallow. For a team already paying franchise quarterback money to linebacker Von Miller, Manning’s salary could severely hamstring Denver. Additionally, renting the 37-year-old, two-time Super Bowl champion for only a season or two may not fit the team’s long-term goals.

Sanders knew how to get attention when he was still playing and that skill set has translated well to his post-playing media career. His comments may have been designed to simply stir up conversation. Regardless of their intent, he certainly has some Broncos fans wondering, “What if?”
