Man, the Avalanche are good. Vegas gave them all they could handle in Game 2, and Colorado still found a way to pull out the victory in overtime by a 3-2 final. As well as Vegas played, they gave the Avalanche six power play opportunities, including one on the game-winner in overtime. And although the Golden Knights have had great success killing the Colorado power play this season, you can’t give those players six cracks at it. They’ll often make you pay, and they did in a huge spot.

Let’s take a look at the Game 3 matchup between Colorado and Vegas from a betting perspective in our Avalanche vs. Golden Knights betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

Now, the Golden Knights’ backs are against the wall, but they are heading home where they’ve been almost as good as Colorado has been in Denver. They’ll need to hold serve to keep this series within reach.

Avalanche vs. Golden Knights Game 3 Betting Pick (June 4, 2021)

Aside from the rash of penalties, Vegas played a better game than the Avalanche in Game 2. That has to be their takeaway. Yeah, there are no silver linings in the postseason, but the Golden Knights can build off the fact that at even strength, they dominated the Avalanche and did so in a place Colorado isn’t used to chasing the game.

Now, they get Colorado to come to Vegas, which has been a house of horrors for opponents since the Knights entered the league. Coach Peter DeBoer will get the last line change, and he’ll once again lean on Marc-Andre Fleury to stop the Avalanche.

Vegas outshot Colorado in Game 2 by a 41-25 margin. It was the largest shot disparity the Avalanche faced on home ice all season. Including the playoffs, Colorado was only outshot four times on home ice all season (twice by Vegas).

Philipp Grubauer was sensational for Colorado in Game 2 and was a huge reason they were able to build the 2-0 series lead. But Vegas has to at least feel like if they play the same way at home as they did in Game 2, minus the penalties, they can find a way to even this series.

Bets We Like With an Avalanche Win

Nathan MacKinnon OVER 0.5 goals (+154, FanDuel)

Going back to the regular season, the Avalanche have now won 11 consecutive games. Five to close out the season and the first six of the playoffs. MacKinnon has been their lightning rod. He leads them in all facets of scoring.

So, if they’re going to continue the streak and win this Game 3, there’s a good bet MacKinnon will be in the mix. It’s almost impossible to get value odds on MacKinnon to do anything in these playoffs, but with the expectation of another low scoring affair and the Knights wanting to lock it down to save their season, the oddsmakers have dangled a gift out there for you.

If you believe in the Avalanche to win the game, get a little extra on the side by picking their best player to score a goal at great value.

Bets We Like With a Golden Knights Win

Max Pacioretty OVER 0.5 goals (+200, FanDuel)

Pacioretty hasn’t scored yet in this series, but there’s one trend that’s really sticking out about him in games against Colorado — he has scored in four consecutive games against the Avalanche at T-Mobile Arena in which he’s played. This is usually indicative of the home coach getting the matchups he likes at even strength, and he must like Pacioretty against certain Colorado defenders.

Pacioretty didn’t play in the final regular season game between the two rivals, but he has otherwise scored four times in three games against the Avalanche. Two of the goals were power play goals. The other two came against J.T. Compher’s line and all four goals came with Colorado defenseman Devon Toews on the ice. Definitely a matchup DeBoer likes to try to exploit, and one you should be betting.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

UNDER 5.5 goals (-120, DraftKings)

We told you Game 1 was an anomaly, and it was. Game 2 was more like it. Five goals total, and it took into overtime to get the fifth. And that was in a game with nine power plays. We don’t expect nearly as many whistles in Game 3, so more even strength play, more good defense and goaltending and, yes, more low scoring. Usually you can get a plus number on the under. The fact that it’s -120 tells you a lot that the oddsmakers are thinking the same way. Low-scoring game. Bet it, regardless of who wins.

Avalanche vs. Golden Knights Game 3 Prediction

This is the Golden Knights’ season. They didn’t match Colorado for the best record in the league just to get steamrolled in the second round. As we pointed out earlier, they were the better even strength team in Game 2. We like Vegas in this spot to keep the faith, hold court, and set up a wildly intriguing Game 4 by knocking off the Avalanche.

Pick: Golden Knights 3, Avalanche 1
