Bradley Roby: ‘We’re going to be so much better than we have been the past two years’

After longtime starter Aqib Talib was traded to the Rams, Bradley Roby became the next man up for the Denver Broncos, and Roby indicated that he has been adding a lot of mental toughness to his craft. “Just eliminate all of the distractions. Just staying locked in on what I need to do, the things I need to do to get better. That’s really it. Football 24/7—that’s all I think about. That’s all that’s on my mind. That’s what’s been the biggest thing this offseason and all of the other ones. I’m always going to focus on football.”

The Broncos’ defense ranked third in the NFL last year, and Roby indicated that he has been a big part of Denver’s defense. “I’m always going to make plays. That’s how I’ve always been when I play football. I’ve always been out there scoring touchdowns, forcing fumbles, getting picks, stuff like that. I know that’s going to come. I just also have to know not to try too hard or try to do things that are not in my job to get those things done. If you just do your job and stay where you’re supposed to be, then they’ll come.”

Chris Harris Jr. has been one of the league’s best shutdown cornerbacks since he entered the league in 2011, and Roby had nothing but good things to say about his fellow defensive back. “Very comfortable. I’m always comfortable with Chris. We’ve been playing together for going on five years now. I’m lucky to be able to play with a guy like that for so long. In this league things change so fast, so I’m very comfortable. We trained together in the offseason, so that just tightens the bond right there.”

The past two seasons in training camp, the Broncos’ defense has dismantled the offense on the practice field, but Roby hinted on Tuesday that the addition of Case Keenum has already paid dividends. “It’s a lot different than what we have seen in the past two years. I must say, [QB] Case [Keenum] is a great leader, a great manager. How he commands the huddle and gets those guys set up and lined up getting the ball to them, his accuracy, everything, his decision making. We’re going to be so much better than we have been the past two years, so I’m excited.”
