On Monday Pro Football Focus released on Twitter their list of the top-five coverage linebackers in the NFL. To be on that list would be an honor for most players. Not Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall, who ranked No. 5 on the list.

Marshall, who led the Broncos in tackles last year, thinks he should be atop that list.

No, he emphatically thinks he should No. 1.

But Dan Williams and Marcello Romano, hosts of Morning Mayhem on Mile High Sports AM 1340, disagree.

Williams and Romano channeled their “inner-Monforts” when assessing other coverage linebackers and cautioned Marshall against putting a target on his back.

Romano pointed to the matchup against New England, which put Von Miller into coverage against Rob Gronkowski, and wondered why Marshall didn’t draw the matchup against Gronk if his skills are truly the best in the game. Producer Dee White says that the Broncos’ own Danny Trevathan might actually be a better coverage linebacker than Marshall.

Marshall, no doubt, had a monster season in 2014, including nine passes defended and an interception to go along with his 113 tackles. But Marshall, who totaled just four tackles in his previous two years, might need a little more time in the league before he can officially take claim of the title of “Best Coverage Linebacker.”

Even though they disagree with his assertion, however, Williams and Romano are pulling for Marshall to prove himself right in his claim.
