The Colorado Buffaloes may have lost the Pac-12 Championship last Friday, but that’s not the worst news to hit Buffs fans this week.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former CU running back and Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam has passed away.

Salaam played three years for the Colorado Buffaloes before being drafted 21st overall by the Chicago Bears in the 1995 NFL Draft. In 1994, his 2,055 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns earned him the  university’s only Heisman Trophy.

“The Buff Family has lost an outstanding young man and a great Buff today,” Athletic Director Rick George said, via CUBuffs.com. “We are heartbroken for Rashaan and his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.”
