Broncos 2019 sixth-round draft pick and former Colorado Buffalo wide receiver Juwann Winfree has made sure to do all the little things throughout training camp and preseason to try to make the team.

Winfree recently joined Ronnie Khort on the Ronnie K show on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 to discuss his chances of making the 53-man roster, who he models his game after, and what he’s looking to improve on the final game of the preseason.

“That’s for my coaches to say,” Winfree said about making the roster. “I felt that I put a good amount of myself on film. I’m going to leave it up to God, and hopefully, they make the right decision.”

For most late-round and undrafted rookies, special teams is where players carve a role within a team. Winfree looks at it as a prime moment to step up and stand out.

“I take as much pride [in playing special teams] as playing offense,” Winfree said. “I take that as my way to stay on the team and just my way to prosper and continue to level up. So, I take pride in it and nothing overweighs each other because they’re both equal opportunities for me.”

Although college production wasn’t eye-popping, the 6’2’’, 210-pound CU product has impressed in the preseason with 4 catches for 58 yards along with a touchdown. He’s always looking at top receivers in the league to learn from and build upon his game.

“I like a lot of Kennan Allen and Davante Adams,” Winfree said. “I’ve been watching them for a couple of years so far and try to model [after them] a little bit, stealing little bits of their game. But I’m watching every elite receiver and stealing anything that can help my game and help me improve. I’m all about giving credit, and any receiver that’s elite, I’m watching and studying because I want to be up there with them.”

With the final game on Thursday against the Cardinals, the sixth-rounder looks to finish the preseason strong in all aspects in the game in order to ensure a roster spot.

“I’m just looking to improve my all-around game and end the season with a perfect game,” Winfree said. “Just all around, blocking, receiving, special teams, it’s going to be a big opportunity for us young guys. I like to finish strong in all areas. That’s what I’m hoping for this weekend and pushing for.”
