The Colorado Mammoth’s biggest rival, the Calgary Roughnecks, continued to be its playoff kryptonite as Colorado lost to Calgary, 11-6, on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center on Saturday night in the West Division Semifinal.

In a game that included a 24-minute delay due to a partial outage of sports lighting in the arena bowl, Colorado was unable to get its offense on track.

“We couldn’t get the momentum,” said Mammoth coach Dan Stroup. “I think we matched them in shots, pretty much. We just didn’t have the right shots. It’s disappointing. That’s not the way we wanted to end our season. Right now the guys are feeling it.”

Colorado had eight power-play opportunities, converting twice. Calgary led 2-1 after the first and stormed to a 7-3 lead with 2:15 remaining in the second quarter, resulting in Alex Buque replacing Dillon Ward in net.

The Mammoth twice cut the Roughnecks’ lead to three in the second half but was unable to get any closer.

Rookie Jeremy Noble paced Colorado with two goals. John Grant Jr., Drew Westervelt and Eli McLaughlin each had one goal and two assists. Joey Cupido scored as well.

With the loss, Colorado is eliminated from the postseason.
