Though he has yet to hoist the Stanley Cup, Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene has certainly accumulated his fair share of hardware representing his native Canada.
On Thursday, Duchene added to his collection, as Canada scored twice in the final three minutes to stun Team Europe 2-1 and sweep the World Cup of Hockey final. The winner was tallied shorthanded by Brad Marchand in the final minute, after a nice feed from Jonathan Toews.
Though Duchene did not figure in Canada’s scoring during the final, he did have himself quite the tournament. Despite playing on Canada’s fourth line, he amassed four points in six games, finishing fifth in tournament scoring.
Duchene has become a fixture on Team Canada. In addition to the World Cup that he just captured, the 25-year-old has also won an Olympic goal medal, two consecutive World Championship golds, a gold medal at the U-18 World Junior Championship, a gold at the U-17 Championship and a Spengler Cup.
