With the trade deadline only hours away, the Colorado Avalanche have acquired goalie Joe Cannata from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Cody Corbett, as well as forward Brendan Ranford from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for forward Joe Whitney. Both will be likely be assigned to the Avs’ minor-league affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

Cannata spent some time with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL this season, along with his most recent stint with the Hershey Bears, the Capitals minor-league affiliate. In 22 AHL appearances, he had a 3.22 goals-against average, a .876 save percentage, and an 11-5-1 record.

Ranford split time this season between the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars minor-league affiliate, and the Tucson Roadrunners, the minor-league affiliate of the Coyotes. in 36 games with the Texas Stars, he had six goals and 17 points. He didn’t do much in 10 games with the Roadrunners, going pointless.

Corbett played in 23 games for the Rampage, finishing with 2 goals and 10 points. Whitney appeared in 55 games, with 11 goals and 28 points this season.
