The Colorado Avalanche’s nightmare season continued on Saturday, when they were blown out by the Winnipeg Jets, 6-1. One play will stand out above all others in the contest. No, not one of the Jets’ many goals. Instead, it was a breakaway gone awry.

During the second period, Avalanche forward Blake Comeau found himself alone with Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. With his team shorthanded, instead of taking the shot, he attempted a drop pass to Nathan MacKinnon. Needless to say, it did not go well.

“I think Blake is going to want that one back,” captain Gabriel Landeskog said (via the Denver Post), “and I don’t think he’s ever going to pass up a breakaway ever again.”

With a record of 17-43-3, the Avalanche remain on pace for the lowest point total of the modern shootout era, which began with the 2005-06 season.
