Colorado State senior quarterback Nick Stevens has been named to The Manning Award Watch List Wednesday. The award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, is given to the nation’s top quarterback and includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.

The watch list is the second that Stevens has been named to this preseason. The Murrieta, Calif., native was also selected to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List in July.

The Murrieta, Calif., native appeared in 10 games last season, making seven starts. Stevens was one of the best passers in the nation in the latter half of the campaign. From Week 7 through the end of the regular season, Stevens completed 98-of-137 pass attempts (71.5 percent) for 1,414 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also adding a pair of rushing TDs. He only threw one interception during that span, leading the Rams to a 4-2 record over their final six games and a fourth consecutive postseason berth. His 171.3 passer efficiency rating ranked fifth in the NCAA and first in the MW last year.

The Vista Murrieta High School product earned Honorable Mention All-MW recognition in 2016, earning a league honor for the second consecutive season (second team All-MW in 2015).

Stevens graduated in May with his bachelor’s degree in business administration. The fifth-year senior has earned Academic All-MW honors each of the last two years.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.

Inclusion on the Watch List is not necessary for the quarterbacks to be selected for the honor. Midseason additions to the Watch List will be announced on Thursday, October 12. The list of 10 finalists will be released on Thursday, November 30. The winner will be announced in the week following the College Football Playoff National Championship.

This year’s Watch List includes players from all 10 Football Bowl Subdivision conferences.

“We have had the opportunity to recognize 12 outstanding quarterbacks with the Manning Award,” said Paul Hoolahan, Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO. “It is truly a great honor for the Allstate Sugar Bowl to sponsor this award and we wish the best of luck to every quarterback and team in the country for another great year of college football.”
