The University of Colorado lacrosse team will begin preparation for its third season on Saturday, Sept. 26 as the Buffaloes are set to play their first of eight exhibition games this fall.

The Buffs open their fall schedule at home with a game against friends of the CU lacrosse program. The contest will mark the third straight year CU faces off against some of its friends.

Colorado then travels to the Loyola Academy campus in Wilmette, Ill. the following weekend to compete in a Play Day tournament, Oct. 3-4. The Buffs will play a double-header on the first day and a triple-header on the final day. On Saturday, Oct. 3, CU faces Michigan at 11:20 a.m. MDT and wraps up the afternoon against Northwestern at 2:20 p.m. MDT. The Buffaloes battled both the Wolverines and Wildcats during their 2015 campaign. Colorado defeated Michigan in thrilling fashion, erasing a five-goal deficit late in the second half and won 14-13 in double-overtime. The Buffs fell in a hard-fought game against Northwestern, 14-8, the Wildcats were ranked seventh in the nation at the time.

On Sunday, Oct. 4, Colorado will play Northwestern again at 8:30 a.m. MDT, followed by Michigan for a second time at 10 a.m. MDT and finish facing Marquette in its last game of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. MDT. The Buffaloes hosted Marquette last season and earned a 13-5 win over the Golden Eagles.

The Buffs will return home and have nearly two weeks off until its next game, Friday, Oct. 16 at in-state rival and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent, Denver. The contest gets underway at 7 p.m. MDT. Colorado is winless in two games against the Pioneers, but hung tough in last year’s match-up, with Denver edging the Buffs 10-6 at Kittredge Field.

Colorado’s fall season finale will take place with the Black & Gold scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8 a.m. on the Buffs’ home field.

The Buffaloes will announce their 2016 regular season schedule later this fall. Colorado is coming off its second consecutive 11-win season as the Buffs finished 11-7 overall, 5-4 in conference play and advanced to the MPSF tournament semifinals for a second straight year.
