Just a little over two weeks after Deion Sanders was hired by the University of Colorado to be the football program’s next head coach, Coach Prime got his first big recruiting win in the form of Kansas high school running back Dylan Edwards.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound back was both one of the smallest and one of the quickest players in the 2023 high school class, and the home-run ability his speed provided made him a top target for the Mecca of football that is Notre Dame.

Edwards committed to the Fighting Irish back in August of 2022 and was steadfast in that commitment until five days after Prime was officially hired by the Buffaloes.

So how did he get lured away from the blue blood program?

“About a week before the announcement that he was coming to Colorado, they called me and said, ‘We’re making a switch, we want you to come with us,'” Dylan Edwards shared. “And when Coach Prime’s on the phone and he asks you that, you can’t say no, you gotta be like, ‘Ok, I’m gonna come visit,” and he was like, ‘well, you’re not just gonna come visit, we’re gonna get you to commit,’ and I was like, ‘alright.’ Well, I came, and that’s what I did, and it was nothing short of what I’ve seen online on YouTube. The facilities are great, the coaches are great, I’m just happy to be here.”

Ever since arriving in Boulder, it’s been smooth sailing for Edwards. He’s been making strides in the running back competition, and he’s been picking up offensive coordinator Sean Lewis’ offense quickly.

“It’s been great,” Edwards said of his first spring practice experience. “The offense that Coach Lewis has had is very hard and very complicated, but I’m getting adjusted every day, and every day I just try to come out there and practice and be the best me I can be.”

If Edwards can hit his stride early in 2023, it would provide the Colorado Buffaloes with dynamic playmakers at every level of the offense.
