The Denver Broncos returned to the practice field yet again, on Thursday, as they prepare for a Sunday clash with the Baltimore Ravens.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at how the injuries around the roster are progressing, and what we learned about the Broncos today.

Denver Broncos Injuries

The Denver Broncos got both good and bad news on the injury front today, at the UCHealth Training Center in Dove Valley.

On the positive side of things, both K’Waun Williams and Dre’Mont Jones returned to the practice field.

That’s a sign that Jones will likely be ready for Sunday, after missing Wednesday’s practice with an illness. That’s huge, as the Broncos will need all the help they can get to try and rein in Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens’ ground attack.

While Williams might not be ready to return, he’s clearly trending in the right direction, and that’s also extremely valuable for Denver. They’re down to Essang Bassey as their starting nickel cornerback, so Williams can’t return quick enough.

Also on the positive front, was the fact that Jerry Jeudy, Randy Gregory, and Lloyd Cushenberry III were seen working some, off to the side of practice. Again, they don’t seem set to return, but Jeudy has arguably been the team’s best pass-catcher, and Gregory, its best pass-rusher, so getting those players back at some point in the near future will be critical.

Cushenberry might have played his last game for the Denver Broncos, considering the quality of his performance, but they could use any offensive depth they can find.

Finally, the bad injury news that came out today was the update surrounding K.J. Hamler.

Hackett told the media today that Hamler suffered a setback with his hamstring injury, which has become the latest incident in Hamler’s unfortunately checkered injury history.

Hamler’s been a fun talent for the Denver Broncos, when the ball gets thrown his way, but with this news coming as Denver slips from the playoff picture, it seems likely we won’t see him again this season.

Latest on the Denver Broncos

With all the injuries to the skill position players, the Denver Broncos have needed some unproven and undrafted stars to step up, and across the board, they have.

Two of the prominent contributors that were previously unheralded have been Brandon Johnson and Calvin Anderson.

“I give Calvin [Anderson] so much credit,” Coach Hackett said of the reserve tackle’s recent play. “He was at right [tackle], he’s been at left [tackle], he’s been our swing tackle, and now he’s our starting left tackle. He’s worked so hard on trying to get better at his craft, and it’s really good to see him settle in there, and feel confident, and do some good things.”

Despite struggling to find playing time early in the season, Anderson has done an admirable job filling in for Garett Bolles.

Johnson has been trying to accomplish a similar feat at wide receiver.

“We all saw his talent in preseason, and the things he was able to bring to the team — his intelligence, his ability to play all three positions,” Hackett gushed about the undrafted rookie. “Then to take that time off, and do all the things that he did to keep himself in shape, and now, come in and pretty much start for us, is just a credit to him. It’s a credit to the man, the ability to stay locked in — even when he’s not in the building — continually work out, and play an entire game, and contribute, and heck, he scored our touchdown. All those things are just a great credit to him as a young man being able to come in here and be a professional.”

The Denver Broncos are going to need Johnson and Anderson to continue playing at a high level if they’re going to pull off the upset on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
