In somewhat of a surprising move, the Denver Broncos won’t exercise Sylvester Williams fifth-year option, meaning that he’ll become a free agent at the end of the season.

Selected 28th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, Sly would have been owed $6.75 million next season, which John Elway called a “pretty big number,” via Mile High Report.

This, though, does not mean that Sly won’t be a Bronco after the season. It simply means that Elway doesn’t value him at that price, and rightfully so. While Sly hasn’t been a bad pick by any means, he’s a dying breed in today’s NFL: a two-down defensive tackle that doesn’t make much of an impact in the passing game.

That was evidenced by the fact that Andrew Billings, a borderline first-round pick by many analysts, fell all the way to the fourth round.
