Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe is healthy and ready to go.

That, according to Mr. Wolfe, who was outspoken at Dove Valley today with the media. Wolfe thinks being healthy in this league isn’t a given, and that it takes time to get your body right, and now he’s excited to get back to the gridiron.

“That’s all you can really ask for in this league. It’s so hard to stay healthy,” Wolfe said. “So when you are healthy; it’s a blessing. I’m excited to try to put a full season together. Last year it was one thing after another.”

When asked if retirement was an answer to his health; Wolfe scoffed at the question.

He simply responded, “No.”

Wolfe has been fighting his neck injury for a couple of years now, after injuring it in a game against the Seattle Seahawks, and the veteran discussed his process of trying to get it fixed.

“I wanted to get it done two years ago,” Wolfe said. “There wasn’t enough science on it. They hadn’t done enough studies. We didn’t even know about that frame that was blocking that nerve. We had just found that out. You want to avoid doing an operation at all cost. At this point I was like ‘we gotta do it’.”

As for the Broncos as a team, how will they be improved from a terrible, 5-11 season last year?

“We made the changes as far as a football team goes. Putting players where they need to be. We got a whole new special teams,” Wolfe continued. “We got a whole new attitude on our special teams. We got a new quarterback. Our offense has a leader now. We got somebody who’s experienced and leading a football team. It’s just about the attitude.”

As far as the 2018 draft class is concerned, Wolfe is impressed with them and expects them to make an impact.

“There’s no complaining. That’s the one thing that you notice from an immature draft class is that if they complain a lot, and whine, and cry a lot,” Wolfe continued. “There’s none of that coming from this group.”
