For the second consecutive year, former Colorado Mammoth forward Gavin Prout has been named a finalist for the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame Class of 2016. He’s joined on the ballot by returners Kevin Finneran and Tracey Kelusky, and first-time nominees John Tavares and Josh Sanderson.

Prout played nine seasons with the Mammoth, and was captain from 2006-2009 and 2012-2013. He’s the team’s all-time leader in career assists (459) and points (664), and is second in loose balls (647). The Whitby, Ontario native, who was named the 2006 championship game MVP, had his jersey retired by the organization in 2015.

“Gavin was a player who truly did it all,” said Dan Carey, Mammoth director of player personnel who called the Hall of Fame nominee a teammate for five seasons. “He could fight, hit, score huge goals, and make a tough play look easy. He was a great teammate and leader, and boy could he fire up the crowd! When I think of what it takes to be a Hall of Famer, Gavin has it all.”

A five-time All-Pro, Prout retired with 301 career goals, 922 points (ninth-most in NLL history), and 1,006 loose balls in 184 games. His streak of 136-straight games played ranks ninth in NLL history. Known as a fierce competitor, Prout registered 70 or more points in each of his first eight seasons.

Hall of Fame voting, which includes ballots cast by teams, current Hall of Famers and senior members of the league’s covering media, will take place in the coming days. Voters may select up to three of the five nominees on the ballot. To win induction, nominees must be selected by a minimum of 75-percent of the ballots cast.
