The Colorado Eagles drew even with the Idaho Steelheads, 1-1, in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series with a 2-1 victory at Budweiser Event Center on Saturday night. Recently named ECHL Defenseman of the Year Matt Register scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Eagles.

Rob Linsmayer deflected a shot past Eagles goaltender Lukas Hafner with :18 seconds remaining in the second period to give Idaho a 1-0 lead heading into the game’s final period. Alex Belzile took a pass from Register and slipped it past Landon Bow for a power play goal to square things at one with 5:43 remaining in regulation.

Register and the Eagles wasted little time in sudden-death, notching the game winner just 1:05 in. Hafner stopped 24 of 25 shots to collect the win for Colorado.

The series now shifts to Idaho for three games, beginning Wednesday.
