Alex Burrows wasted no time making an impact for his new team. In his first appearance since being traded from Vancouver, Burrows led the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 home win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
Burrows may be new to Ottawa, but he’s no junior Senator. The 12th-year veteran brought with him 193 career goals in the move east across the great white north. He added two more in the victory over Colorado to help his new team keep pace behind Montreal in the Atlantic. Montreal defeated Nashville on Thursday to maintain their top spot in the division.
Calvin Pickard made 42 saves in the loss, while Colorado struggled to put shots on former Avalanche goaltender Craig Anderson. Colorado put just 23 shots on goal in the loss and went more than 10 minutes to open the second period without challenging Anderson. Rene Bourque spoiled the shutout bid 5:25 into the third.
The Avalanche now travel to Winnipeg to face the Jets on Saturday. They will then immediately return home to host the Blues on Sunday as part of a four-game home stand, their longest remaining of the season.
