The Denver Nuggets knew they had a special talent on their hands when they drafted Jamal Murray with the seventh overall pick. Tuesday night Murray officially burst onto the scene.

Murray had been progressively getting better as his first season moved along, but his performance Tuesday night will be remembered as his first big game.

Before the contest, head coach Michael Malone was asked what he expects to see out of Murray moving forward.

“We never had any doubts, even when he got off to that rocky start shooting the ball because we knew what a great shooter he was.” Malone said. “This is a player that we are excited about … He’s not just a shooter or a scorer. He’s a player. We think he has a chance to be a special player.”

In his effort Tuesday night Murray showed just how special a player he can be, tallying 24 points, two assists, and six rebounds in the Nuggets 110-107 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Murray scored 12 points in under three minutes in the second quarter.

After the game Malone had some positive words to say about the prized rookie.

“Jamal Murray is a heck of a player.” Malone said. “Every game he seems to improve. He seems to showcase a little bit more of his ability and his talents.

“He’s a tough cover. I’m very happy for him.”

For Murray, it is becoming business as usual as he adjusts to life in the NBA.

“Confidence.” Murray said. “I can’t shoot the ball scared. It doesn’t take me long to get hot. I think every shot is going in. If I miss, I don’t worry about it.

“I just go in, do my thing, and come out. I just need to focus on what I need to do.”

Murray’s performance brought the crowd at the Pepsi Center to its feet, something that has been non-existent over the past three seasons.

Fans are starting to get excited again as a sense of hope has swarmed the Nuggets recently, and a big reason is due to Jamal Murray.

His superstar potential is keeping a positive buzz surrounding this Denver Nuggets team, and was critical to the Nuggets near perfect homestand.

It was known the moment he was drafted that he had the potential to be the next big thing in the league, and Tuesday night Murray put his seal on what is to come from him moving forward.
