The Colorado Rockies beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 11-6 Saturday afternoon, with the the help of a spectacular performance from Jorge De La Rosa.

Coming into the game, the Colorado Rockies pitching staff was depleted, struggling and injured.

Needing a shutdown performance, the Rox called upon the arm of franchise pitcher Jorge De La Rosa.

De La Rosa had struggled for a majority of the season, owning an ERA of 6.47; however, he had settled into a groove, allowing just three runs in his previous three starts.

Things were ugly early on for De La Rosa, walking the first batter he saw, ultimately allowing Arizona to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Rox, though, got even in the bottom half of the first, bringing the score back to 1-1.

From there, De La Rosa would do the rest.

He managed to haul six quality innings, surrendering one run on six hits with six punch outs en route to a Rockies’ victory over the NL West rivals.

The start was exactly what the Rox needed, and manager Walt Weiss expressed that.

“It was critical,” said Weiss. “To see him back to form, it’s been a huge lift for us.”

For De La Rosa, the start was equally as big.

“It was good,” De La Rosa said. “With this win we are going to get better, get the confidence back.”

The Rockies pitching staff has been hit hard in the recent weeks, making the De La Rosa start that much more enjoyable.

The Rox wrap up the series against Arizona Sunday afternoon before welcoming home Troy Tulowitzki for a series against the American League East Toronto Blue Jays.
