Nuggets president and governor Josh Kroenke joined Afternoon Drive with Eric Goodman and Zach Fogg for a candid conversation about Denver’s disastrous 2014-15 campaign and the team’s future.

Denver couldn’t do anything right last season, on or off the court. Things got so bad in both areas that the front office was forced to fire former head coach Brian Shaw midseason. But that’s not where the changes stopped; JaVale McGee was shipped out of town during the season, and Ty Lawson after it. Kroenke highlighted how a compete overhaul was needed to change the culture at the Pepsi Center.

“When your best players aren’t on the same page as your coaches, you’re going to have glaring issues and you’re gonna have different times where you can obviously tell guys aren’t on the same page,” Kroenke continued. “We wanted to be sure we cleaned all of that out of there and had guys that were really buying into what we wanted to accomplish over a several year period and we’re really excited about the group we have this year and moving forward.”

Kroenke also went on to say that in the case of Lawson, sometimes both parties just need a fresh start.
