The 2015-16 regular season for the Broncos was a roller coaster of emotions. Lots of ups and downs, emotions running off the charts and constant questions about Peyton Manning and the team’s foreseeable future. But one thing remained steady: The Broncos defense, led by defensive end, DeMarcus Ware.

On Wednesday, David Hulbert of The Morning Huddle discussed the Broncos consistent defense and a possible Super Bowl Championship on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1340. However, before the city starts planning a parade route, Hurlbut suggests “pumping the breaks.”

“Where do I think this team ranks of all time? Just tap the breaks. They are excellent, we might even call them great, but lets go win a playoff game or two,” Hurlbut said sounding a little bit wary of just how far the Broncos will last.

There is no doubt that the Broncos have had a reliable defense. The Broncos led the league in total yards allowed per game (283.1), passing yards allowed per game (199.6), sacks (52) and yards given up per play (4.4). They finished as No. 1 in team total defense amongst the league, too.

Hurlbut goes on to compare the Broncos defense this year to the defense of Super Bowl championship teams like the ’76 Steelers, the ’85 Bears and the ’00 Ravens. Being in the company of football greats like Joe Greene, Mel Blount and Glen Edwards, and the “46 defense” hardly seems like a bad thing.

If the 2015-16 Broncos defense can hold Ben Roethlisberger, or who ever their opposing quarterback is, to 13 points or less, Hurlbut is then willing to talk about planning a parade.

“I love this Bronco defense, but lets hold off on the parade just yet,” Hurlbut said. “Go hold Ben Roethlisberger to 13 points, then we’ll talk. Thats my challenge, or who ever we play.”

So whether it’s Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers or the Chiefs or the Texans, the Broncos have been challenged by Hurlbut. Are they up to the challenge or not? Can the Broncos hold the opposing offense to 13 points or less?
