Today, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone appeared on ESPN’s The Lowe Post podcast with Zach Lowe, and while he had plenty to say about the Nuggets, one of the most interesting things he said had to do with Nuggets TV commentator and local radio host Scott Hastings.

Hastings played in the NBA for 11 seasons, including two with the Bad Boy Pistons, whom Malone’s father actually coached for. At the time, Malone was just a teenager in high school, and Lowe asked whether he had any special relationships with any of the Bad Boy Pistons.

“Well you know what, it’s really funny, the one guy that jumps out is actually the guy that does our TV in Scott Hastings,” Malone said. “I was not legal — of age — to be drinking at the time, but I remember being at the bar a few times with Scott Hastings and having a couple of pops, so he was always a favorite of mine because he was buying me drinks.”

Little did Hastings know, the little high school kid he was passing drinks to at the bar would end up coaching the same Denver Nuggets he called games for on Altitude TV.

Today, though, they can both grab a beer without worrying about being charged with a MIP.
