A personnel move that was one of the quietest during the Broncos offseason might prove to be one of the most impactful, and it wasn’t even for someone who will set foot on the field. As The Press Box Insider Josh Davis observed, new director of football analytics Mitch Tanney could have an incredible impact for the Broncos this year.

With the pressure greater than ever before to deliver Peyton Manning his second Super Bowl (and Denver’s first since the turn of the century), the team hired Tanney to help head coach Gary Kubiak analyze and understand which plays, personnel groupings and individual performers give the Broncos the best chance to win.

So while the Seahawks are focused on getting paid, and the Patriots are focused on deflated footballs, the Broncos are focused on the data and systems that will yield that all-important February win.
