The Denver Nuggets have transferred rookie guard Monte Morris from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to the professional roster ahead of Sunday’s match up against the Indiana Pacers.
Morris joins the Nuggets after a superb showing in the NBA’s newly branded G-league by averaging 17 points while shooting 49 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc playing an average of 32 minutes per contest. Morris also averaged 4.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.
The Nuggets selected Morris with the 51st overall pick in the 2017 draft. Morris signed a two-way contract with the team along with swingman Torrey Craig who had a stint with the team earlier in the season.
Denver likely called up Morris to add depth at point guard as starter Jamal Murray is dealing with tightness in his right calf. The Nuggets are already down Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap in addition to dealing with a medley of other bumps and bruises.
Morris was one of the best players in Iowa State Men’s Basketball program history as he is the school leader in assists, steals, and wins.
